DCW Editions is a premium French lighting brand that was founded by Philippe Cazer and Frédéric Winkler in 2008. This is a brand that we love due to their specialisation of relaunching classics of modern design.
DCW Editions first relaunch was the Lampe Gras collection designed by Bernard-Albin Gras in the 1920s, and since that the list has continued with iconic pieces such as Bernard Schottlander’s Mantis lamps and the Here Comes the Sun pendants by Bertrand Balas. Timeless designs that have roots to the past and a vision for the future.
Drawing inspiration from the past, all DCW Editions pieces are designed for the present with the future in mind. This sought-after lighting brand offers a large range of lighting products from iconic elegant desk lamps to modern innovative tube lighting solutions like ‘In The Tube’ or the ‘ISP’ Collection.
Let’s take a look at some of DCW Editions creations..
Lampe Gras
This collection originated in 1921 when Bernard-Albin Gras created the series for use in office and industrial environments. This series had strong architectural and industrial influences and although it was very robust, it was equally ergonomic too. In 1927 the Ravel company purchased the patent and started production of the Gras lamps. Bernard-Albin Gras’s talented and visionary design has proven to be timeless. There are over 30 types of Lampe Gras to choose from, including table, floor, wall and ceiling lamps.
Biny
The Biny Collection stems back to 1955 when Jacques Biny opened a workshop to product modern lighting. Jacques Biny’s hallmark was rigour and he never stopped in his quest to improve how homes were lit, having developed over 400 models during a 30-year career. Efficiency and simplicity, restraint, elegance and modesty are the common denominators in Jacques Biny’s work.
Here Comes the Sun
A design from Bertrand Balas, an architect born in Toulouse in 1935. One of Balas’ pastimes was to watch the sunrise and sunset over the Garrone River. This is where the inspiration for Here Comes The Sun initiated, a design that when lit turns into something magical.
In The Tube
In more recent times DCW Éditions has begun to move towards more modern and innovative designs. Architect Dominique Perrault and designer Gaëlle Lauriot?Prévost created this collection with the objective of it being completely original, almost indescribable, timeless and completely durable. The In The Tube Collection provides excellent glare-free illumination, suitable for private and professional spaces.
In The Tube can be used outdoor as well as indoor, as a suspension, on a wall or ceiling?mount. This DCW Edition is a versatile solution that certainly attracts attention when entering a room.
Mantis
In 1951 Schottlander created the Mantis series of lamps. Movement is an intrinsic feature to all of Shottlander’s clever designs, many of which play with counterweight systems combined with a series of strong, flexible metal bars. People often highlight the shade for its unique design, Like an acrobat suspended in midair. It is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are a part of the metalworker’s inventory of skills, but to which he has brought his sculptor’s eye to create a spiral movement.
ISP
ISP is a mini-revolution in the lighting world, brought to us by Ilia Sergueievitch Potemine. Aesthetically, it resembles nothing on earth. An existing lamp does not inspire this creation, nor is it a reproduction of some obscure design from a bygone era. It is a resolutely contemporary object. A jewel of a lamp that illuminates a mysterious universe. At the same time, it is a mechanical jewel, one that is encased in a simple brass capsule.
Created by the world’s most renowned designers, these pieces are meant to function in harmony with your life and act as a beautiful addition to any interior space. The main goal of DCW Editions is to produce beautiful, authentic objects that stand the test of time.
